RACING

The Summer Cup has brought together Joburg’s communities since its inception in 1897, with crowds flocking to Turffontein to experience the excitement of horse racing. Boasting exemplary quality fields and large prize money, the R2 million race offers a day of electrifying racing, while making the sport accessible and fun for young and old alike.

ENTERTAINMENT

The Summer Cup is the only race day to feature a half-time show. Taking inspiration from the NFL, the show brings together hundreds of performers and dancers, choirs and more, who take over the race track, just before the main race and wow the crowds with a 20-minute set. The half-time show is always headlined by a mainstream local band, and last year Freshlyground took centre stage.
